In the late 19th century, Sonora Dodd, a daughter of a Civil war veteran, wants to show her appreciation to her father, William Jackson Smart, who she helped raise her younger brothers after her mother died when she was 16. Dodd soon petitioned for a day to give credit to all Fathers. Her intention to celebrate her admiration for her father caught waves and now is a symbolic tradition, that’s how Father’s Day started.
